Love, secrets and self-discovery will storm to the forefront in Victorian-era fashion when Naperville’s EverGreen Theatre Ensemble stages Nicholas Rudall’s translation of Henrik Ibsen’s classic, “A Doll’s House,” this January and February.
“A Doll’s House,” directed by Artistic Director Craig Berger, runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 4 p.m. from Jan. 23 through Feb. 13. Tickets are $20 for general admission or $10 for students. Performances for Jan. 23-24 are at the Meiley-Swallow Thrust Stage at North Central College, 31 S. Ellsworth St., Naperville. Performances for Jan. 29-Feb. 13 are at the Naperville Women’s Club, 14 S. Washington St., Naperville.
A landmark play in dramatic theatre, Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House” tells the story of Nora Helmer, a Victorian housewife struggling to protect a secret from her husband, Torvald. When blackmail threatens and the truth is revealed, Nora experiences an awakening—about her marriage and herself.
“I am extremely excited to have ‘A Doll’s House’ as our debut production for 2010,” said Evergreen Theatre Ensemble Artistic Director Craig Berger. “This play can be considered one of the first blows struck for the Feminist movement, and is a standard in the theatrical canon. Our talented performers are enthused at the prospect of bringing this great work to life on the stage.”
The cast for “A Doll’s House” features ensemble members Doyle Deveroux (Torvald Helmer) and Margaret Pretkelis (Nora Helmer) as well as Jillian Blanford (Mrs. Linde), James Heatherly (Dr. Rank), Vanessa Hughes Carlson (Sofia), Jeff Jones (Krogstad), Zack Newman (Ivar Helmer), Gregg Palmer (Delivery man), Derek Rippe (Erik Helmer), and Lidia Soroka (Anna Marie).
