When murder roars through a small Missouri town, Ruth Hoch begins her own quest to find truth and honesty amid small town jealousies, religion, greed and lies. This tornado of a play propels you through its events like a page-turning mystery.
EverGreen Theatre Ensemble explores greed, jealousy and relentless determination in their upcoming production of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright’s Lanford Wilson’s “Book of Days.”
Directed by EverGreen artistic director Craig Berger, “Book of Days” opens Oct. 23 and runs Friday-Sunday till Nov.14 at the Naperville Women’s Club, 14 S. Washington St Naperville, IL 60540. No performance scheduled on Oct. 31. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in person prior to the show or online. Reservations taken by phone at 630.544.9504.
Set in the small-town of Dublin, Missouri, the play follows Ruth Hoch as she rehearses for a community theatre production of Shaw’s “St. Joan,” searches for the murderers behind the death of the local cheese plant owner and confronts those preventing her from finding the truth. Bringing religion, morality and honesty into question, this contemporary play is dramatic, funny and thought-provoking. Described by Variety magazine as, “Wilson’s best work since “Fifth of July”…An intriguing prismatic and throughly engrossing depiction of contemporary small-town life with a murder mystery at its core…a splendid evening of theater.”
