NEW-COMER A HOME TO SECOND CHANCES

(Naperville, IL) When Craig Berger founded the EverGreen Theatre Ensemble, it was his hope to build a bridge between the community and theatre in a way that hadn’t been done before. Berger not only wanted to produce plays that had a positive message but, he wanted to give people in the community a chance to tell their stories.

“I’m interested in the human journey,” Berger said, “I’m interested in listening to what other people have gone through.”

In May, the theatre will be sending out a call to the community for new scripts that center around its motto: Dreams. Lost and Found.

And writers need not worry about “flash” and special effects, according to Berger. “I’m interested in the story…What do they dream? How do they get the dream?”

The next production to explore that theme is “Art” by Yasmina Reza, which opens at The Comedy Shrine in Naperville on April 26. The play, which won the Laurence Olivier Award (London) for Best Comedy and a Tony Award for Best Original Play, explores the boundary between artistic appreciation and friendship.

Tickets may be purchased online through the EverGreen Theatre Ensemble Web site, or may be reserved by phone at 630-544-9504. They can also be purchased at the door on the evening of the performance. Performances are Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Sundays at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for Saturday shows and $15 for Sunday shows.

Craig Berger, Artistic Director, EverGreen Theatre Ensemble, is a former professor of Theatre at College of DuPage and the founder of Buffalo Theatre Ensemble, the professional equity theatre ensemble in its 21st year of residency at the college.
